Effective October 6, 2014:  Hydrocodone combinations products must be prescribed as a Schedule II drug, according to the Controlled Substances Act. The Drug Enforcement Agency made the announcement that hydrocodone combination products will be moved from Schedule III to Schedule II.   Prescribers should take note of this change in prescribing requirements as a new prescription will required each time a hydrocodone combination product is dispensed. Prescriptions for these products can no longer be accepted via fax, phone or e-scribe.
